Arius

Arius (c. 256–336), a priest in Alexandria whose teaching that the Son was created gave its name to Arianism.

His dispute with Bishop Alexander of Alexandria, from c. 318, led to the Council of Nicaea (325), which condemned his views and exiled him. He was later allowed back into communion by imperial decision, but died in Constantinople in 336 before he could be formally restored.
