John Wimber

John Wimber (1934–1997), American pastor and musician who led the Vineyard movement and became the best-known figure of the “Third Wave” of the Spirit in the 1980s.

A professional musician before his conversion, he led a church in Anaheim, California, that became the centre of the Vineyard churches. With C. Peter Wagner he taught a course on signs and wonders at Fuller Theological Seminary from 1982, and his book Power Evangelism (1986) argued that healing and other gifts should accompany evangelism. He brought Continuationism to many evangelicals outside the Pentecostal and Charismatic movements.
