Amillennialism
The view that the thousand years of Revelation 20 are symbolic and describe the present age, in which Christ already reigns, between his first coming and his return.
Augustine set out this reading in The City of God, completed c. 426, turning away from the earthly reign some earlier writers expected. It became the standard view of the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches and of most Lutheran and Reformed churches. The name itself is modern. It expects one return of Christ, followed at once by the general resurrection and final judgement, unlike Premillennialism.
