Arminianism

Salvation as God’s gift that a person can accept or resist: God’s prevenient grace frees the will to respond, election rests on God’s foreknowledge of faith, and Christ died for everyone.

Jacobus Arminius, a Dutch Reformed professor, questioned Calvinist predestination. After his death his followers, the Remonstrants, set out five articles in the Remonstrance of 1610, which the Synod of Dort rejected. The view later spread widely through John Wesley and the Methodist movement.
