Premillennialism
The view that Christ will return before a literal thousand-year reign on earth, which follows his coming and precedes the final judgement.
Several writers in the Early Church in the 2nd century held a form of it, but it faded after Augustine’s Amillennialism prevailed. It revived in the 19th century. Its most influential modern form, dispensationalism, came from John Nelson Darby: it divides history into distinct ages, keeps a separate future for Israel, and usually teaches a rapture of believers before a time of tribulation. Many Baptist and Pentecostal churches hold some form of premillennialism.
